Great article, especially in a society of instant gratification. Starting up and running a successful business takes planning, persistence and patience, not to mention hard work.

Wow. I'm officially inspired. Its refreshing to see the values of building a business slow and steady. This an uncommon view in our times of leveraging debt and the worshiping the "Time Value of Money".

Excellent summary of what's important in any business - whether you're writing a business plan for investors or not. Just goes to show that the software business is like any other business: you have to provide a solution that people want & need. The product details come after that.

Tim, love your article and have similar experience in bootstrapping. The following is what I have written about my own lessons. Thanks.

Tim,

Just wanted to say thank you for this post. So many of your points are in line with my current goals. My business is being built on similar principles and with my wife as a partner. So many times you read how the things you describe won't work. You also read how you can't possibly mix business and family. It is refreshing to read your viewpoint. I tend to believe that it can be done as long as you are dedicated to the journey.

Thanks.
