Timothy Ferriss says many similar things in his book, The Four Hour Work Week. In it he asks a great question: "How is it possible that all the people in the world need exactly 8 hours to accomplish their [day's] work?" (Or 12 hours or 16 hours.) But that's become the standard and if we don't find ways to fill those hours (with a mixture of actual work, games, IM'ing, social networking, etc.) we feel like we're not being productive. Ferriss also argues that 80% of our productivity comes from 20% of our effort. Interesting stuff.
